Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) in Charlottesville, Virginia, is set to receive a new aviation building, significantly expanding its aviation maintenance technology program. The 30,000-square-foot facility, funded by $15 million from the state, will address a critical shortage of aviation mechanics both locally and nationally. The new building will house state-of-the-art classrooms and labs, allowing PVCC to double its program capacity and train up to 100 students annually. This expansion is crucial because the current program is turning away qualified applicants due to space limitations. The aviation industry faces an aging workforce and increasing demand for skilled mechanics, making this expansion timely and necessary. The facility will feature specialized areas for sheet metal work, composite repair, engine maintenance, and avionics training. PVCC is also partnering with local aviation businesses, including the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport and nearby maintenance facilities, to provide students with real-world experience through internships and apprenticeships. The collaboration ensures that the curriculum remains relevant to industry needs and helps graduates secure employment upon completion of the program. The project aims to create a pipeline of skilled aviation mechanics to support the growing demands of the aviation sector and boost the local economy. find the original article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/aviation-building-coming-community-college-231415249.html
