Donald Trump announced that he's ending the "secret" Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP), also known as "Remain in Mexico" policy, implemented during his presidency. He claimed credit for its success in deterring illegal immigration and stated that President Biden "terminated" it. The MPP, initiated in 2019, required asylum seekers at the U.S.-Mexico border to wait in Mexico while their U.S. immigration cases were processed. Critics argued it led to humanitarian crises and exposed vulnerable migrants to violence and exploitation in dangerous border towns. While Trump blames Biden for ending the program, the Supreme Court ruled that the Biden administration had the authority to terminate MPP. The Biden administration initially attempted to end the policy, but legal challenges from Republican-led states forced its reinstatement under court order. The policy's impact is debated, with some arguing it significantly reduced illegal border crossings and others claiming it caused immense suffering and violated international law. The end of the policy is expected to shift asylum processing to within the U.S. and potentially lead to increased crossings at the border. find the original article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-says-hes-ending-secret-222920353.html
