A Southwest Airlines jet passed within approximately 200 feet of another Southwest plane over Southern California on April 12, 2024, prompting an internal safety investigation. The incident involved Southwest Flight 2713 from Las Vegas and another, as-yet-unidentified, Southwest flight. Flight 2713 was preparing to land at Hollywood Burbank Airport when the near miss occurred. While the pilots of Flight 2713 were cleared for the visual approach, they prematurely descended, causing the aircraft to come dangerously close to the other plane. The minimum vertical separation between aircraft is typically 1,000 feet, making the 200-foot separation a significant safety breach. The incident was brought to light by an internal memo at Southwest, triggering an internal review of the event. The FAA was not formally investigating the matter. Southwest is committed to safety, conducting thorough internal reviews to understand the contributing factors and prevent future occurrences. The investigation aims to identify what led to the premature descent and the proximity to another aircraft. find the original article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/southwest-jet-passed-less-200-191836397.html
