On April 15th, David North, chairman of the WSWS International Editorial Board, participated in a webinar hosted by San Diego State University Professor Emanuele Saccarelli. The webinar focused on the intensifying contradictions of global capitalism and the need for a new international socialist movement. North argued that capitalism is facing an unprecedented crisis characterized by escalating social inequality, the threat of world war, and environmental catastrophe. He attributed these crises to the inherent contradictions of the capitalist system, particularly the conflict between the globalized economy and the nation-state system. He emphasized the urgency of building a unified international working-class movement to combat these threats. The discussion covered historical analysis of the socialist movement, highlighting the betrayals of Stalinism and social democracy, which, according to North, led to the defeats of the working class in the 20th century. He stressed the importance of learning from these historical experiences and building a revolutionary party based on the principles of Marxism. The webinar advocated for the necessity of independent political action by the working class, rejecting reliance on bourgeois political parties and trade unions. The overarching theme was the need for a renewed socialist consciousness and organization to address the global challenges posed by contemporary capitalism. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/04/15/ccdi-a15.html
