A recent claim by Donald Trump that the United States was energy independent under his administration and that President Biden ended this independence is misleading. While the U.S. did achieve energy independence, loosely defined as producing more energy than it consumes, under the Trump administration, this definition is nuanced. The U.S. was already trending towards this goal before Trump took office, largely due to advancements in fracking technology and the increased production of shale oil and natural gas. The United States achieved *net* energy independence, meaning it exported more energy than it imported. However, the U.S. still imports and exports significant amounts of crude oil and refined petroleum products for various economic and strategic reasons. This is due to factors like different types of crude oil needed for specific refining processes and international trade agreements. While Trump often cited the achievement of energy independence as a major accomplishment of his administration, the policies implemented by President Biden have not fundamentally reversed this trend. U.S. energy production remains high. Biden's cancellation of the Keystone XL pipeline and temporary suspension of new oil and gas leases on federal lands are frequently cited by critics as evidence of harming domestic energy production. However, these actions have had a limited immediate impact on overall U.S. energy production and imports. The U.S. remains a net exporter of energy under Biden's administration, though fluctuating global energy prices and consumption patterns impact the import/export balance. find the original article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/fact-check-trump-claimed-us-195239917.html
