A protest was held in Brooklyn, New York, demanding the release of Dr. Abdelhaleem Khalil, a Palestinian-American doctor arrested by the FBI for allegedly providing material support to Hamas. The protest was organized by the Defense Committee to Free Dr. Abdelhaleem Khalil and coincided with the anniversary of his detention. Speakers at the rally condemned the Biden administration's continuation of Trump-era policies, citing Khalil’s case as evidence. They characterized his arrest as politically motivated, alleging it was based on unsubstantiated claims and that Khalil was targeted for his humanitarian work in Gaza. They argued that the charges against him were intended to silence criticism of Israeli policies and the ongoing genocide in Gaza. Protesters accused both the Trump administration and the Democratic Party of complicity in the Gaza genocide, highlighting Khalil's detention as an example of this complicity. They further criticized the government's targeting of Palestinian activists and organizations, viewing it as an attack on freedom of speech and political expression. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/03/13/evog-m13.html
