The International Youth and Students for Social Equality (IYSSE) strongly condemns the detention of a pro-Palestinian activist from Columbia University by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The IYSSE views this action as a significant escalation by the Trump administration, designed to suppress political dissent on university campuses. They argue this suppression is a preparatory step towards establishing a Trump dictatorship. The IYSSE asserts that this detention is part of a broader attack on democratic rights and freedom of speech. They highlight the targeting of political opponents and immigrants as a dangerous trend indicative of authoritarianism. The organization characterizes the detention as politically motivated and a blatant attempt to intimidate students and faculty who are critical of government policies, particularly regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The IYSSE calls on students, faculty, and workers to mobilize in defense of democratic rights and against the Trump administration's escalating attacks on political opposition. They advocate for the immediate release of the detained activist and an end to the repression of pro-Palestinian voices on university campuses. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/03/10/pzog-m10.html
