Candace Harbin, a 30-year-old Heath, Ohio, mother, was sentenced to five years in prison for involuntary manslaughter in connection to the death of her 4-year-old son, Carson Harbin. The child died in December 2022 from ingesting a fatal dose of fentanyl. Investigators found drug paraphernalia, including fentanyl, in the family home, easily accessible to the child. Harbin pleaded guilty in February to involuntary manslaughter and endangering children. While prosecutors recommended a sentence of 8 to 12 years, the judge opted for a shorter term, citing Harbin's efforts to rehabilitate and her deep remorse as mitigating factors. During the sentencing, Harbin expressed profound regret and acknowledged her failure as a mother. The child’s father also spoke, emphasizing the devastating impact of Carson's death on the family. Judge David Branstool acknowledged the tragedy and the difficult decision he faced, noting the need to balance punishment with the potential for Harbin's rehabilitation. find the original article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/heath-mom-sentenced-5-years-213249866.html
