In July 2020, Donald Trump proposed the creation of a "National Garden of American Heroes," a sculpture garden featuring statues of historical figures he deemed exemplars of American greatness. This proposal followed attacks on monuments during protests against police violence, which Trump used as justification. The initial plan involved selecting approximately 30 figures for commemoration. However, the project stalled following Trump's defeat in the 2020 election. The Biden administration formally revoked the executive order establishing the garden in May 2021. Despite this setback, right-wing figures and organizations have revived the idea. In early 2024, Newt Gingrich, former House Speaker, unveiled plans for a similar project he termed the "American Cornerstone Park." This park, slated for construction in Tennessee, aims to feature statues of individuals embodying conservative values and American ideals. These initiatives represent a broader effort by the right wing to shape historical narratives and promote a specific vision of American identity. They reflect ongoing cultural and political battles over the interpretation of history and the symbols that represent national values. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/04/12/nywp-a12.html
