Last week in Dublin, peaceful protesters were arrested while demonstrating against the ongoing Israeli military actions in Gaza. The protesters, organized by Mothers Against Genocide (MAG), were specifically highlighting the deaths of Palestinian children. The demonstration involved participants carrying pillows, symbolizing the children killed in the conflict. According to reports, approximately 40 people participated in the protest, which began outside the Irish parliament building, Dáil Éireann. They later moved towards the Department of Foreign Affairs. The demonstration was intended to pressure the Irish government to take a stronger stance against Israel's actions. The police intervention and subsequent arrests have sparked criticism from various activist groups and human rights organizations. They argue that the arrests represent an infringement on the right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. Critics contend that the police response was disproportionate to the nature of the protest, which was described as non-violent and symbolic. Furthermore, concerns have been raised regarding the treatment of those arrested while in custody. The incident has intensified the debate surrounding Ireland's foreign policy towards Israel and Palestine. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/04/11/masp-a11.html
