A recent study by the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives (CCPA) highlights the severe housing affordability crisis facing minimum-wage workers in major Canadian cities. The report focuses on the disparity between minimum wage earnings and the cost of renting a basic two-bedroom apartment in cities like Toronto and Vancouver. The study found that a full-time minimum-wage worker in these cities would need to work an unsustainable 138 to 141 hours per month just to cover the cost of rent. This leaves them with no disposable income for other essential expenses, such as food, utilities, and transportation. The report underscores the inadequacy of current minimum wage levels in addressing the escalating cost of living in urban centers, particularly concerning housing. It suggests a significant disconnect between wages and the actual expenses required for basic survival, painting a bleak picture for low-wage earners and their ability to secure stable housing. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/03/08/gody-m08.html
