A last-minute agreement between the UAW and GE Aerospace to avert a strike by 800 aircraft engine workers in Evendale, Ohio, has sparked growing opposition from rank-and-file members. The agreement, reached just hours before a midnight strike deadline, addresses some cost-of-living concerns but workers are claiming that the economic gains were too little and too late. Many workers believe the deal falls short of addressing their core concerns, including erosion of real wages due to inflation, inadequate cost-of-living adjustments (COLA), and insufficient job security protections against automation. There's strong feeling that the UAW leadership has caved to company demands. A significant point of contention revolves around the proposed changes to the COLA formula and wage increases, which workers deem insufficient to keep pace with the rising cost of living. Concerns persist about the long-term impact of automation on job security, with the agreement failing to provide adequate safeguards against potential job losses due to technological advancements. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/03/04/iqbg-m04.html
