The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) in Australia is campaigning in the federal election to advance a socialist program for the working class, amidst escalating social inequality, rising living costs, and the dangers of war. They argue that neither the Labor government nor the Liberal-National Coalition offers solutions to these issues, both being committed to austerity measures and supporting imperialist agendas. The SEP critiques Labor's acceptance of the AUKUS military pact and its failure to address pressing social needs, while also denouncing the Coalition's right-wing policies. They dismiss the Greens as an unreliable ally, highlighting their past support for Labor governments that implemented anti-worker policies. The SEP advocates for policies such as increased wages, improved social services (including healthcare and education), and the defense of democratic rights. They oppose the drive to war and advocate for international working-class unity against imperialism. They call for the nationalization of key industries under democratic control, and a socialist transformation of society to address the fundamental problems of capitalism. Their central argument is that the working class must break with the existing political establishment and build its own independent, socialist movement to fight for its interests. They contend that only a socialist program can address the interconnected crises of social inequality, war, and environmental destruction. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/05/01/zrou-m01.html
