The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) is running candidates in the upcoming elections with a platform centered on building an independent, socialist movement of the working class. They argue that all other political parties are united in supporting a program of war, austerity, and increasing authoritarianism. The SEP contends that the ruling class, facing a global crisis of capitalism, is turning towards militarism and attacks on democratic rights. They point to the escalating conflicts in Ukraine, Gaza, and the South China Sea as evidence of a growing danger of world war. The SEP critiques the union bureaucracy and pseudo-left organizations for suppressing the class struggle and aligning themselves with capitalist interests. They emphasize the need for workers to break with these forces and build their own independent organizations based on a socialist program. They propose a socialist perspective to address the economic and social crisis, advocating for public ownership of major corporations and banks, and a planned economy to meet social needs rather than private profit. Furthermore, the SEP warns against the rise of right-wing extremism and the erosion of democratic norms. They argue that the capitalist system is inherently incompatible with democracy and is increasingly relying on authoritarian measures to suppress dissent. Their campaign aims to mobilize the working class in defense of democratic rights and fight for a socialist transformation of society to avert war and dictatorship. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/04/07/lrex-a07.html
