The Socialist Equality Party (SEP) in Australia contested the 2025 federal election, focusing on the escalating dangers of war, growing social inequality, and the erosion of democratic rights. The SEP campaign centered on the need for a socialist program to address these crises, arguing that the Labor government, like its predecessors, was committed to defending the interests of big business and aligning with US imperialism. Key policy proposals included the fight against austerity measures, advocating for increased social spending and workers' rights. The party emphasized the interconnection between domestic policy and foreign policy, particularly Australia's growing involvement in US-led military build-up against China. The SEP argued for a complete withdrawal from all military alliances and a foreign policy based on international cooperation and peace. The SEP also addressed the suppression of dissent and increasing authoritarian tendencies, warning against the erosion of civil liberties and the criminalization of protest. It linked these developments to the deepening economic and geopolitical crises of capitalism. While the SEP's vote share remained small, it was viewed as significant. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/05/31/mejt-m31.html
