Sri Lanka Ties Forged

Sri Lankan President Dissanayake assured India of complete cooperation, signaling a reinforced alliance within the context of escalating US-China tensions. This commitment solidifies India's position as a crucial strategic partner for the United States in South Asia. Dissanayake's pledge follows growing instability and widespread anger towards the government due to its austerity measures. Trade unions are planning further actions against privatization and attacks on jobs and living conditions. The government’s policies, dictated by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), aim to impose further burdens on the working class, including public sector job cuts and the privatization of state-owned enterprises. The unions, whilst voicing opposition, are working to defuse worker anger to prevent any independent action. Dissanayake is working to suppress any social opposition.
