Pro-Palestinian demonstrators occupied Stanford University's White Plaza, renaming it "Liberated Zone for Palestine," and barricading themselves inside the university president's office for several hours. The activists demanded the university divest from companies supporting Israel and disclose its investments. The demonstration began with a rally and march before protestors entered Building 10, which houses the offices of university President Richard Saller and Provost Jenny Martinez. They then moved into Saller's office, causing damage including graffiti and broken furniture. Stanford acknowledged the damage and condemned the occupation, calling it "unlawful." University police issued shelter-in-place orders for nearby buildings and ultimately arrested 13 individuals. Those arrested face charges including burglary, vandalism, and conspiracy to commit a crime. The university emphasized its commitment to free expression but stated that it would not tolerate actions that disrupt university operations or threaten safety. The occupation followed weeks of similar protests on college campuses nationwide. Stanford officials stated they are reviewing the incident and will take appropriate disciplinary action. The university said it would continue to engage in conversations with students regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, but reiterated that property damage and disruption will not be tolerated. find the original article here: https://www.yahoo.com/news/pro-palestinian-demonstrators-occupied-stanford-031234838.html
