In March 2025, students at Western International High School in Detroit staged a walkout to protest escalating ICE raids and deportations impacting their community. The protest was part of a broader nationwide wave of demonstrations against increased immigration enforcement actions. The students voiced concerns about the impact of deportations on families and the climate of fear created within their school and neighborhood. They demanded an end to the raids and called for a more humane approach to immigration policy. The walkout was organized in response to growing anxieties among the student body, many of whom have family members or friends directly affected by the heightened ICE activity. The action underscored the deep-seated fears and frustrations within immigrant communities concerning the government's immigration policies. The student-led protest aimed to raise awareness and pressure lawmakers to address the issue. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/03/06/pllh-m06.html
