In his May Day 2025 speech, Nick Beams addresses the escalating global crisis stemming from the inherent contradictions of capitalism. He argues that the system is characterized by a profound disconnect between the immense productive forces created by technological advancement and the outdated social relations that prioritize profit over human needs. Beams highlights the widening chasm between the wealthy elite and the working class, manifested in extreme inequality, increasing precarity, and deteriorating living standards. He points to the intensification of geopolitical tensions, the rise of militarism, and the looming threat of war as direct consequences of capitalist competition for resources and markets. He also underscores the environmental devastation wrought by the relentless pursuit of profit, leading to climate change and ecological destruction. The speech emphasizes that the capitalist system, despite its technological capabilities, is incapable of resolving these crises. It is intrinsically driven toward endless accumulation, exacerbating existing problems and generating new ones. Beams argues that the only path forward lies in the revolutionary overthrow of capitalism and the establishment of a socialist society. He calls on the working class, united internationally, to seize political power and reorganize society on the basis of social need and collective ownership of the means of production. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/05/07/vmbq-m07.html
