Thomas Scripps's May Day 2025 speech, delivered at the Socialist Equality Party's online rally, focused on the advanced stage of capitalist breakdown and the necessity for socialist revolution. Scripps argued that the world is entering a period of unprecedented social upheaval, driven by the objective contradictions of capitalism, including war, economic instability, and the climate crisis. He highlighted the dangers of imperialist conflict, particularly the escalating war in Ukraine, which he characterized as a proxy war between NATO and Russia, risking a wider global conflict. Scripps condemned the role of various governments in exacerbating these tensions and prioritized the need to unite workers internationally against imperialist war. Scripps emphasized the immense wealth concentrated in the hands of a tiny elite, contrasting this with the widespread poverty and inequality faced by the working class. He pointed to the failures of capitalist governments to address pressing social issues like healthcare, housing, and education. The capitalist system he argues, is inherently incapable of meeting the needs of humanity. He stressed that the working class holds the power to transform society, but this potential requires organization, political education, and a revolutionary program. Scripps championed the International Committee of the Fourth International (ICFI) as the only political tendency capable of providing the necessary leadership and program for this struggle. He calls for workers to build sections of the ICFI in every country and to fight for a socialist future. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/05/13/ydhv-m13.html
