Trump: Silence Dissent, or Lose Funds

Donald Trump, speaking at a rally in Ohio, vowed to crack down on student protesters demonstrating against the ongoing genocide in Gaza, threatening them with deportation and arrest. This threat comes amid escalating protests on college campuses and elsewhere against the Biden administration's support for Israel's actions in Gaza. Trump characterized the student protesters as "radical left lunatics" and linked them to broader immigration issues, falsely claiming many are not from the United States. He pledged that if re-elected, he would deport foreign students participating in such protests. He also promised to arrest any student who is protesting. This stance aligns with Trump's long history of suppressing dissent and attacking democratic rights. He has previously made similar threats against protesters, including those demonstrating against police brutality and his own policies. His rhetoric reflects an authoritarian bent and disregard for the First Amendment rights to freedom of speech and assembly. The speech is also seen as an attempt to rally his base around divisive issues and scapegoat immigrants and students for broader societal problems. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/03/05/tqbp-m05.html
