Darren Paxton's May Day 2025 speech emphasized the intensifying global crisis stemming from capitalism, highlighting the dangers of imperialist war, the rise of far-right forces, and the ongoing attacks on democratic rights and living standards. He focused on the escalating conflict in Ukraine, driven by the US and NATO, which he argued is rapidly evolving into a wider war with potentially catastrophic consequences, including nuclear war. Paxton criticized the Labour Party in the UK, asserting it is complicit in these policies, acting as a willing tool for the ruling class. He also addressed the growing threat of the far-right, fueled by economic hardship and political disillusionment, which capitalizes on nationalism and scapegoating. He warned of the erosion of democratic rights under the guise of national security and counter-terrorism, citing the suppression of dissent and the expansion of surveillance powers. Paxton called upon young people and workers internationally to recognize the historical significance of May Day as a day of international working-class solidarity and to organize a conscious political struggle against capitalism. He urged them to join the International Youth and Students for Social Equality and the Socialist Equality Parties to build a powerful, global movement based on socialist principles to overthrow capitalism and establish a socialist society. The speech stressed the urgency of building a revolutionary leadership capable of challenging the existing political order and fighting for a future free from war, exploitation, and social inequality. find the original article here: https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2025/05/08/tsmb-m08.html
